Listening to Readings

Readings for which you have purchased audio are shown in the Reading List with a loudspeaker icon . You can purchase audio for readings by opening the reading and clicking the button.

The Play and Audio settings buttons are enabled for any reading you open for which you have purchased audio:

All chanting starts with the word the grey cursor is on. To start chanting from a particular word, tap that word to select it.

To hear one word chanted, double-tap the word.

To hear the reading chanted from the selected word to the end of the reading, tap "Play to end".

To hear the reading chanted from the selected word to the end of the trope group that word is in, tap "Play Group".

Technical explanation: Tropes are roughly divided into three types: Strong Separators, Weak Separators, and Connectors. Strong Separators act like commas, semicolons and periods in English sentences, splitting verses into phrases. Weak Separators split phrases in verses into sub-phrases. Connectors don't split up words at all. The "Play Group" button tells TropeTrainer Mobile to chant from the selected word until and including the next word with a Separator trope. The Separator tropes used to end trope groups are: Sof Pasuk/Silluq, Etnachta, Zakef Katon, Revia, Tevir, Segol, Geresh, Gershayim, Telisha Gedola, Zakef Gadol, Pazer, Shalshelet, and Karne Fara.

To hear the reading chanted from the selected word to the end of the current verse, tap "Play Verse".

To hear the reading chanted from the selected word to the end of the current Aliyah, tap "Play Aliyah". If you tap "Play Aliyah" while viewing a Megillah, TropeTrainer Mobile will chant until the end of the current chapter. If you tap "Play Aliyah" while viewing an Haftarah, TropeTrainer Mobile will chant until the end of the Haftarah.

While TropeTrainer Mobile is chanting, the grey cursor will move from word to word, highlighting the word currently being chanted. The Play and options buttons are disabled, and a Stop button is displayed near the right end of the button bar:

To stop chanting, tap the Stop button.
