Creating Custom Readings

TropeTrainer Mobile lets you create custom readings, specifying the verses at which you want aliyot or entire readings to start and stop.

To create a custom reading, from the Home view click "Open reading". The Reading List view opens.

Click the "Custom reading" tab bar button at the bottom-right of the Reading List view. The Custom Reading list is displayed in the right-hand list panel:

Tap the yellow list entry "<Create new Custom reading>". The Custom Reading window opens.

Tap the radio button corresponding to the type of Custom reading you are creating:

Begin entering the beginning and ending verses for each reading section.

To enter verses, tap the left-hand white box next to the reading section you are entering. The picture below shows the picker wheel that is displayed when the boxes nearest the label "Kohen" is tapped:

The picker wheel shows book names in the left column, Deuteronomy has been selected. The middle column is the chapter number, the right column is verse. The first aliyah of the current reading being set therefore starts at Deuteronomy 1:1. Click "Use" to select that verse. Click "Cancel" to leave the setting unchanged.

Click the right-hand white box next to the reading section you are entering. This sets the End verse for the reading section you are editing. The picker wheel will be displayed, pre-set to the start verse. Swipe the chapter and verse dials as needed to select the end chapter and verse for the reading section. Tap "Use" to select that verse. Click "Cancel" to leave the setting unchanged.

Repeat this procedure for as many reading sections as you want to enter.

To quickly clear a Reading Section entry row, tap the "Clear" button to the right of the row.

To quickly clear all Reading Section rows, from near the top of the Custom Reading window tap a different "Custom Reading Type" from what is currently set, and then tap the Type you want to edit.

Here is an example of a three aliyah Torah reading:

If you do nothing else, after entering the verses shown above, the Name field at the top of the window will read, "<GEN1:1:GEN1:11>". The contents of the Name field on this window is later displayed in the Reading List view, and at the top of the Display Reading view. To change the name, tap the white entry field next to the label "Name". A keyboard is displayed. Enter the name you want displayed.

To open the view and save the reading so you can open it again later from the Custom Reading list, tap "Save then Open reading". The Custom Reading window is closed, the reading is saved, and the Display Reading view is displayed, showing your new custom reading.

To open the view and not save the reading to the Custom Reading list, tap "Just Open reading". The Custom Reading window is closed, the reading is not saved to the Custom Reading list, but the Display Reading view is displayed, showing your new custom reading.

Note: Just Open Reading is for when you want to quickly look at some verses, but don't expect to come back to this reading. The custom reading is placed into the Recent Reading list, which holds up to the last 16 recently opened readings.
